← Work         Project Title    Books Covers - On the Pleasure of  Hating by William Hazlitt

A school project where we had to design covers for the book “On the Pleasure of Hating” by William Hazlitt. The constraints of the assignment was that we had to use one or more elements that were entirely hand made.

For the first cover the graphic asset i made, was a 15 x 15 cm origami spider (2-3 hours of paper folding) that was then photographed, retouched and placed on the cover so it folds from the front, over the spine and around to the backside the book. Giving an eerie, almost not wanting to touch - feeling to the cover. When considering the title, the words are split into three layers (4 if you count the “byline”) symbolising the many legs of a spider.

The second cover features a black satin ribbon tied into a noose. Which in similar fashion to the spider, has been neadly folded, photographed and retouched in post. The ribbon-noose “hangs” the title in the front and weight down at the back of the cover with the description of the book.
